Herbal remedies, dietary supplements, and
botanical medicines are part of the growing interest in alternative medicines
and therapies that people are seeking today. When you walk into many large
supermarkets you may see an aisle dedicated to natural medicines. Spend any
time online researching health questions and you will be bombarded with
advertisements for the "next big thing" in supplements that will
claim to cure everything from earaches to diabetes to cancer.

Before
1900, most mothers breastfed their infants. Breastfeeding rates declined
sharply worldwide after 1920, when evaporated cow's milk and infant formula
became widely available. These were promoted as being more convenient for
mothers and more nutritious than human milk. Breastfeeding rates began rising
again in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
As part of the Brenner FIT program at Brenner Children’s Hospital, participants are encouraged to eat 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. “Fruits and vegetables should be one of the fundamentals of any diet,” said Stacy Kolbash, a registered dietitian who works with Brenner FIT. “Fruits and vegetables provide a wide range of vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytochemicals your body needs to maintain good health and energy levels. Fruits and vegetables may reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease and promotes a healthy immune system.”
