Your Guide to Summer Camps in Greece and Around the World

American Farm School: The Greek Summer program was created in 1970 and promotes intercultural exchange between Americans and Greeks under the sponsorship of the American Farm School, an independent, non-profit school serving the rural youth of Greece and the Balkans. The program is designed for young people who are enthusiastic about immersing themselves in another culture, contributing to the quality of life in a rural Greek village, and having the opportunity to make new friends. Through the years, the American Farm School has built a tradition of helping Greek villagers meet their evolving needs through community service projects carried out by Greek Summer participants. During Greek Summer, young Americans undergo their own metamorphosis of thought and spirit as they work to accomplish set goals. The intensity of the experience leads participants to realize new potential and discover resources within themselves and each other. For more information about participation and cost please visit American Farm School at: http://www.greeksummer.org/.

summer_camps.jpgAmerican College of Thessaloniki, Anatolia: Study Abroad students wishing to spend a month in Northern Greece combining academic study with a truly unique cultural experience are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. Students will spend an unforgettable month in Greece's second city, Thessaloniki. With a population of about a million and two large public universities, it is a human-scale city in which one in ten pedestrians is a university student. With a modern seafront, it is a Mediterranean city that has also preserved the vestiges of its Roman and Byzantine history. Visiting students literally walk in the footsteps of Phillip, Alexander and Saint Paul and will be able to visit nearby Vergina with the magnificent tombs of the ancient Macedonian kings, sail in the Thermaikos bay, and take weekend trips to Chalkidiki, famous for its sandy beaches. Summer time is also a period of festivals and outdoor concerts. Many summer students find that a month of study at ACT combines well with a month of sailing or touring throughout Greece, and the College is pleased to provide suggestions. Other college students seek simultaneous paid internships in the Anatolia Summer Camp, co-located on this 50 acre campus, and details on this program are available from Summer Camp Coordinator, Eva Kanellis at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . American visitors to Greece do not require visas for up to 3 months here. The Summer 2008 Session runs from June 23-July 21 and students may take up to two courses whose credits are transferable to most US colleges and universities, because of ACT's accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The summer class offerings aim at meeting both the demands of the general student body and the interests of Study Abroad students. Summer courses are open to entering Fall 2007 college freshmen and constitute an ideal way to experience university-level courses and gain course credits. Summer study abroad students are invited to enroll in a special certificate program in Greek Studies, awarded in successful completion of two courses on Greek art, history, politics or philosophy in one substantive and one Greek language course.
