Here are some fun and easy ways to make your favorite Christmas characters….Santa Claus, Elves and Mr. Snowman! Together, they make a nice display under a Christmas tree.

 

 

 

  

For Santa, you will need:

 Styrofoam balls of 1” and 3”Styrofoam disc of 4” (to use as base)ToothpicksRed felt fabricCotton woolBlack peppercornsFabric or Felt Glue Pins

Directions:

 Using the toothpicks, join together the small Styrofoam ball (head) to the large ball (body), and the body onto the base piece.Push in the two peppercorns for eyes.Cut two pieces of red felt: a large one for the robe and a small one for the hat.Wrap the ‘robe’ around Santa’s body and keep it together with glue or pins.Glue bits of cotton onto Santa’s robe as shown in the picture. Glue on a ‘beard’ and hair.Roll the small piece of felt into a conical shape and pin it onto Santa’s head.    

 

 

For the Elves, you will need:

 Styrofoam balls of 1” and 2”Styrofoam disc of 4” (to use as base) ToothpicksGreen felt fabricSmall piece of white foamBlack peppercornsTrim for collarFabric or felt gluePins

Directions:

 Using the toothpicks, join together the small Styrofoam ball (head) to the large ball (body), and the body onto the base piece. If you are making several elves, make sure you can fit them onto the base.For each elf, push in the two peppercorns for eyes.Cut a small piece of green felt: roll this into a conical shape and pin it onto the elf’s head.Cut small shapes for the ears and glue these on (it may be easier to glue them onto the hat).Wrap bits of trim around the neck and secure this with glue or a pin at the back.The elves are now ready to help Santa!  




For Mr. Snowman, you will need:

 Styrofoam balls of 1” and 3”Styrofoam disc of 4” (to use as base) ToothpicksSmall piece of  felt fabric2 Cinnamon sticks (thin)Black peppercorns A few small round seeds (like mustard) A piece of carrot (dehydrated, if possible) for the noseTrim for scarfFabric or felt gluePins

Directions:

 Using the toothpicks, join together the small Styrofoam ball (head) to the large ball (body), and the body onto the base piece. Cut a small piece of felt: shape this into a hat and pin it onto the snowman’s head.Insert the  peppercorns for eyes.Carefully push in the small seeds for a mouth, as shown in the picture.Use the cloves for buttons.Wrap the trim around the neck and glue or pin this in.Push in the cinnamon sticks onto the snowman’s sides. These are the arms.Finally, push in the small piece of carrot for the nose.The snowman is ready!
