Butter creams, rich chocolate browns and warm blues define the space from walls and floors to furnishings. The Nedeljkovics’ decorating choices primarily focus on visually interesting architectural elements, quality materials and minimalist-design furnishings. Theirs is a perfect example of enjoying a space that both serves as a multipurpose hub and exudes luxury.
The kitchen.
The kitchen / family room is truly the heart of the household. They seem to do everything in this space, including cooking, entertaining, helping the children with homework, paying bills and a practically endless list of everyday activities. The Nedeljkovics selected a limestone floor in warm tones not only because of easy maintenance, but for a timeless look that enhances the beauty of the dark-wood cabinetry and kitchen table. The cream floor and walls throughout the kitchen / family room provide a perfect backdrop to the minimalist furniture, rug and predominately dark accessories. Cabinets are made of solid walnut with elegant rod-iron knobs that resemble something from the past, but with 21st century design and functionality. Perfect material coordination continues with granite countertops having deep earth-tone veins. The symmetrically arranged handcrafted ceramic tiles around dark fixtures add a touch of sophistication. Stainless steel appliances have a sleek, clean yet contemporary look that counterbalances with countertops and dark wood.
The family room.
The family room.
The open floor plan takes you directly from kitchen to family room. The natural daylight that surrounds the kitchen / family room is a notable feature of the architectural design, which brings outdoor elements indoors. The strong sense of openness and the beauty of changing seasons in the Carolinas complements the almost neutral and soothing indoor environment. Heavy crown moldings in aged-ivory color, along with iron chandeliers, add substance and scale. A large limestone fireplace has a built-in entertainment center that connects with the kitchen’s limestone floor and monochromatic wall color, thus making a cohesive transition to the highly used family room. The butter-cream chenille and leather furniture form simple lines and are complemented with a few splashes of color from throw pillows, minimalist artwork, a contemporary accent rug and accessories, all of which retain a feel of modernity. A wonderful sense of both relaxation and elegance enables the family room to serve as a multipurpose space.

Nicholas’ bedroom.
Chloe and Lucky inspired the design tone in every space throughout the house, making the transition from room to room harmonious and pleasant. The area on the second-floor just outside Nicholas’ bedroom provides a direct view of the family room and formal living room. The staircase features the inviting feel of hardwood floors, which have interesting dark wood inlays; a decorative rod-iron chair rail and an indoor balcony overlook the formal rooms. The warmth of wood floors and the soothing colors of the formal living room truly project Lucky’s and Chloe’s calm personalities. Nicholas’ bedroom includes a desk, a bunk bed with a ladder with ample storage underneath, and a tall chest of drawers. In addition, the subdued primary colors of the rug and bedspread define the theme of the outer space. Other popular elements are incorporated in the design, such as a soccer-ball lamp and various space-themed objects. The cohesive transition from kitchen / family room continues to the upper floor, with dark wood furnishings and minimalist artwork that make Nicholas’s bedroom not only beautiful, but the kids’ favorite spot to spend with peers.
Goneis magazine would like to thank the members of the Nedeljkovic family for their warm hospitality and for sharing their beautiful home with our readers. Ω
