The Hussami family moved into their magnificent home last year. “After a long search for a house that combines functionality and elegance, a classic design with modern twist in the layout fulfilled our expectations,” said Rani Hussami.

A warm ancient-stone color scheme welcomes you from the dignified front entrance into the flawless interior of the house. The eternal beauty of marble flooring in earth tones, arranged in geometric shapes, makes a notable impression in the foyer. An unexpectedly dramatic ceiling with raised crown moldings and a large-scale chandelier sets the tone for a home décor with strong Oriental and European influences.

Elegant sculptural qualities are evident around the house — in decorative columns, the masterfully handcrafted tumble-stone fireplace and arched built-in bookcases with discreet lighting. Other visually appealing elements include raised-panel ten-foot heavy wood doors with black wrought-iron French knobs, beautiful hardwood floors and oversized crown moldings.

The spaces are made alive and vital by furnishings in rich wood and leather against the backdrop of a golden and dusty taupe color palette. The warm textures of soft chenille fabrics and an Oriental rug in the living room create a sense of intimacy and comfort. Around the house are strategically placed eclectic mixtures of antiques and accessories showcasing the individuality of each piece and reflecting a refined elegance. Large windows allow an abundance of natural light to illuminate the home’s public spaces, especially the kitchen, the heart of the home.

Everyone is drawn into the kitchen, which features cabinets in rich dark and light wood tones, finished in dark chocolate glazes. Polished granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, handmade tiles in variable stone finishes with scattered decorative iron-tile inlays and a long, welcoming island with Oriental-inspired stools trigger your appetite. A get-together at the Hussamis’ is surely an impressive dining experience. The highlight of the gourmet kitchen? A chef’s dream gas stove with multiple burners.

The kitchen is definitely perceived by guests to be the most desirable place in the house. The formal dining room is in close proximity to the kitchen and opposite the music room, but it doesn’t get used nearly as much.  “…our guests seem to enjoy a casual-elegant gathering, so the dining room seems to be the most neglected room in our house,” said Christina Hussami. “We entertain frequently, and I always seem to be in the kitchen doing something…thus, I enjoy being a part of the conversation, and the current plan gives me this flexibility. The island also is where the children have a quick breakfast or snacks during schooldays and where I get all my meals prepared.”

Style and comfort are evident in every corner of the Hussamis’ home. The beauty of the exterior and interior design are in the quality of the craftsmanship and the exotic materials that have been used to create not only visual interest, but to serve as a backdrop for a lifetime of family memories.

Goneis Magazine would like to thank the Hussami Family for their warm hospitality, and for sharing their beautiful home with our reading family.
