Spring is here and before you know it, the kids will be finished with school for the summer. Now is the time to begin thinking about signing up your son or daughter in a golf camp. Many golf courses have daily golf programs for beginners to advanced players, for kids ages 6-18. There are also weekly and monthly programs, too.

For example, the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida has a weekly golf program for kids that cost about $600 including meals. This doesn't include airfare or hotel. When I attended this program, I was nine years old and it has improved my golf game by at least 7 strokes. The first day at WGV golf camp, they taught everyone the basics of golf. The instructors work on your grip, then your stance, the position of the ball, then the backswing, and forward movement of the club. They also videotape your swing so that they can analyze any mistakes. Then they spend time correcting the mistakes, then at the end of the week, they videotape your swing again to see if you've improved. This type of golf camp runs from Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM and they make learning the game of golf fun!

There are other junior golf schools that combine golf with tennis like Maine Golf and Tennis Academy http://www.golfcamp.com/. At Junior Golf Scoreboard http://www.njgs.com/ and at www.mysummercamps.com/camps you can find a directory of golf camps close to your home. Famous names like Annika Sorenstam and David Leadbetter have golf schools, too. Annika opened her first "Annika Academy" golf school at the Ginn Reunion Resort just outside Orlando, Florida. David Leadbetter has two golf schools in Celebration, Florida and at the IMG Academy in Bradenton Florida. Both schools offer week-long golf instruction. If you want to swing like a Tiger, sign up for a golf school that is owned by Tiger Wood's swing coach. The Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy http://www.ijga.com/ has two locations: at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course near San Luis Obispo, California and at Hilton Head, South Carolina.

If money is tight, many local golf courses offer week long summer golf programs that are more affordable. Call your local golf course to see if they have a summer program.

At the Golf Channel website http://www.golfchannel.com/ there are free golf instruction videos. Click onto "Instruction and Play." There you will also find the Drive Chip and Putt Skills Competition. This is a great program that I have been involved with for the past 6 years. Click onto Sign up and you'll find a list of all 51 cities where the Drive Chip and Putt will take place all around the country. There is no fee for kids ages 7-14 to participate. Since it is a skills challenge, kids test their abilities to see how accurate there putting and chipping is, and how many yards their drives can go. Medals are awarded to the top players, and the sponsors give out free T shirts, and sometimes free snacks or lunch for the participants. There are regional and national competitions for the top players as well.

Find good golf camp and see if golf is a good fit for your kids. I know it's been great fit for me!
