The Harry Bikakis Fellowship: A fellowship for graduate students at North American institutions or Greek graduate students whose research subject is ancient Greek law and who need to work at ASCSA libraries; or Greek graduate students working on a School excavation. Cotsen Traveling Fellowship for Research in Greece: Short-term travel-to-collection fellowship of $2,000 is available to senior scholars and graduate students for projects and research at the Gennadius Library. 9. W.D.E. Coulson and Toni Cross Aegean Exchange Program: A program funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs through the Council of American Overseas Research Centers, providing short-term research fellowships (2 weeks to 2 months) in the humanities or social sciences for Greek nationals including staff of the Ministry of Culture, doctoral candidates and faculty members of Greek institutions of higher education for research in ancient, Byzantine, post-Byzantine, and Ottoman studies as well as studies of modern Greece and Turkey, to pursue research in Turkey under the auspices of the American Research Institute in Turkey, with offices in Istanbul and in Ankara. However, research focus need not be restricted to these two cities. Stipend of $250 per week plus round-trip airfare is awarded. 10. The M. Alison Frantz Fellowship (formerly The Gennadeion Fellowship): The Frantz Fellowship supports research in the fields of Late Antiquity, Byzantine Studies, and Modern Greek Studies for Ph.D. candidates and recent Ph.D.'s from a U.S. or Canadian institution, who must demonstrate their need to work in the Gennadius Library. The Jacob Hirsch Fellowship: The Hirsch Fellowship is available to Ph.D. candidates and recent Ph.D.'s from the U.S. or Israel who are completing a project such as the revision of a dissertation for publication that requires a lengthy residence in Greece. 12. Paul Rehak Memorial Traveling Fellowship: One or more fellowships provide funding for travel while in Greece for graduate students or senior scholars to perform research. One grant of $1,000 or several smaller grants will be awarded for the 2007-2008 academic year to a School member already attending the School who needs to travel for research purposes within Greece. 14. Kress Publication Fellowship: Fifth year of a five-year program funded by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation supports postdoctoral scholars working on a Corinth or Agora publication assignment with preference given to those working on a volume rather than an article. A total of $30,000 is available for each grant cycle, defined as the School's fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). The Hellenic State Scholarships Foundation (Ι.Κ.Υ.): Announces that it will offer up to forty (40) scholarships to nationals (foreigners or of Greek origin) of the European Union Member States, Switzerland, U.S.A., Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan for studies in Greece beginning in the academic year 2006-2007. 17. AHEPA Educational Foundation: The AHEPA scholarship program is administered by the AHEPA' Educational Foundation. The Foundation offers scholarships to a wide variety of students with applications available online to qualified applicants. Recipients are: traditional and non-traditional students entering and attending college as well as graduate colleges; seminarians, including those entering Holy Cross Greek School of Theology; and high school seniors, college and post-graduate students who are looking to enhance and complete their education and be become tomorrow's leaders. The preservation of Hellenic or Classical Studies programs on college campuses is an important issue for the AHEPA Educational Foundation. A subcommittee of the Foundation, the Hellenic Cultural Commission, actively works to support the study of the Classics at universities. 20. Saint Barbara College Scholarships: Through the generosity of parishioners and of the Parish Council, a number of scholarships are available annually to college students from the parish of Saint Barbara and, in certain cases, from other Greek Orthodox Churches in the Greater New Haven area. The Saint Barbara Endowment Fund Committee manages the funds for these scholarships, and the Scholarship Committee administers the awards in accord with the wishes of the donors, as described below.
Named Scholarships
The Mary Alexiades Scholarship, established in 1990 by the will of Mary Alexiades who had a lifelong commitment to the church and community of Saint Barbara, is awarded annually to entering or continuing college students. The purpose of this award is to assist deserving students from the Saint Barbara parish to meet the expenses of their college education. This scholarship is given solely on the basis of the recipient's academic accomplishments.
The Stella Jean Scarveles Scholarship was established in 1991 by family and friends to perpetuate the memory of Stella Jean Scarveles who was a lifelong communicant of Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church. This scholarship is awarded annually to an entering college freshman or a student already in college who has achieved an above-average academic record, has financial need, and has demonstrated sports participation. The scholarship is open to students who are members of a Greek Orthodox Church in the Greater New Haven Area.
The James Verinis Scholarship was established by a grant from James Verinis in 1992, reflecting his lifelong concern for, and interest in, the youth of Saint Barbara. This scholarship is awarded annually to a college student from the parish of Saint Barbara on the basis of merit and financial need.
The John L. Soterakos Family Scholarship was established by John L. Soterakos in 1996 to perpetuate the memory of the Soterakos family. This scholarship expresses John's love and commitment to his family and to his religious beliefs and heritage. It is awarded annually to a student who is a member of a Greek Orthodox Church in Greater New Haven, and is an entering freshman or already in college. Special consideration will be given to the student who has achieved academic excellence, and plans to pursue a financial career.
The Vonetes-Vartelas Family Scholarship was established in 1997 by the Vartelas and Stamos families and friends of Elias "Uncle Louie" Vonetes, to honor and perpetuate his lifelong affection and love of children, Orthodoxy, and Hellenism. Mr. Vonetes was among the founding members of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Ansonia and a parishioner of the Saint Barbara parish. This scholarship is awarded annually to a student who is a member of either Saint Barbara Church or Holy Trinity church. The award is given on the basis of financial need and service to the church and community.
The Eugene and Kathryn Lightle Scholarship was established in 1999 by the estate of Eugene and Kathryn Lightle. This scholarship is a reflection of the Lightle's lifelong commitment and labor on behalf of the community of Saint Barbara. It is awarded annually to a student from the parish of Saint Barbara on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
The Evdos, Alexandra and Clara Genetos Scholarship was established in 2001 by the Genetos Family and is a reflection of their lifelong and devoted commitment to the community of Saint Barbara. This scholarship is awarded annually to a student from the parish of Saint Barbara on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
The Hellenic College/Holy Cross Scholarship was established in 2002 in memory of the Rev. George Kerames by John L. Soterakos, George Scarveles, and the Kerames Family. This Scholarship reflects the love that Father George shared with the members of the Saint Barbara Church during his more than thirty years of service as its pastor. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student who is a member of Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church and who is entering, or is already studying for the priesthood at Hellenic College or Holy Cross School of Theology. The scholarship may be also awarded to a graduate from the Holy Cross School of Theology who is entering or continuing postgraduate studies in a religious discipline at an accredited institution, and is a member of Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church.
The Klarides Family Scholarship was established in the year 2001 to honor the memory of Kostas and Amalia Klarides. This scholarship is awarded annually to a college or university student who is a member of either the Saint Barbara or the Holy Trinity or Ansonia parish, who has financial need and has exhibited qualities of perseverance and diligence in overcoming personal challenges.
The Kledaras Family Scholarship was established in 2002 by the Kledaras family to perpetuate the memory of their parents, George and Mary Kledaras, brother Stanley and sister Georgene. They were all lifelong members of Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student from the Saint Barbara parish on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
The Brenda Antonellis Scholarship was established in 2002 by the Antonellis family to honor the memory of Brenda Antonellis. It is awarded annually to a student from the Church of Saint Barbara, on the basis of academic merit, service to church and community, and intent to pursue studies in education.
The Peter and Tekla Vartelas Scholarship was established in 2002 in memory of Peter's parents, John and Paraskeve Vartelas. This scholarship is awarded annually to a student from the Saint Barbara Church or the Holy Trinity Church of Ansonia, on the basis of the student's academic merit, need, service and athletic participation.
The Erickson Memorial Scholarship was established in 2003 by Harry and Jane Hajedemos and family to honor the memory of Jane's parents, Victor Theodore and Beverly Nelson Erickson. It is awarded annually to a college or post-graduate student with intent to pursue a degree in Engineering, Nursing, Medicine, or any other health or science-related field of study. This scholarship is awarded to a parishioner of Saint Barbara on the basis of service to the church community and academic merit.
The George C. Morris Scholarship was established in 2004 by the Morris family to honor and perpetuate the memory of George, a faithful and devoted servant of the church and community of Saint Barbara for most of his life. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student from Saint Barbara, on the basis of participation in the church's educational programs and service to the church and faith.
The Konstantinos Antonellis Scholarship was established in 2004 by the Antonellis Family in honor of the memory of Kosta ‘Gus' Antonellis, a long time member of the community of Saint Barbara, AHEPA Chapter 98, and owner of the College SPA Restaurant of New Haven. Kosta was a man who encouraged others to own their own businesses and believed that with God's help, all things are possible. This scholarship is awarded to members of Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church who are in pursuit of their dreams and goals. Open to students who are enrolled in culinary, technical, business school or college in pursuit of a degree. Based on merit and need.
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Ansonia Scholarship was established in 2005 by a grant from the Holy Trinity Church of Ansonia. It is awarded annually to entering freshman, undergraduate, or graduate college students from the community of either Holy Trinity or Saint Barbara on the basis of academic merit and service to the Church and community. Priority will be given to students from Holy Trinity, and additional consideration will be given for participation in organized sports.
The Artemis Davey Scholarship was established in 2005 in memory of a founding member of the Saint Barbara Community by her husband Dr. Lycurous Davey. This scholarship is awarded annually to a student from Saint Barbara Church who is enrolled in an Ivy League University.
The Mary Stamos Scholarship. Mary's legacy was that of friendship, compassion, concern for and charity toward all, and this scholarship, established in 2005 through the desire of her family and friends to perpetuate those memories, will be awarded annually to a parishioner of either Saint Barbara or Holy Trinity of Ansonia, on the basis of service to others and financial need.
The Sophie Pappas Scholarship was established in 2006 and is a reflection of the Sophie's lifelong commitment to the community of Saint Barbara. It is awarded annually to a student from the parish of Saint Barbara on the basis of academic merit and Church service.
The George Maniatakis Scholarship was established in 2006 by his wife, Irene Maniatakis, in memory of George Maniatakis, one of the founding members of the Saint Barbara community. This scholarship is awarded to a student from the Saint Barbara Church who is pursuing either an undergraduate or graduate level degree. The scholarship is awarded primarily on the basis of financial need.
The Savas & Eleni Anastasion and William & Efstathia Andreas Scholarship was established in 2006, and is awarded to a student from the Saint Barbara Church who is enrolled in a community college. In the absence of such an applicant, the scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.

This endowment scholarship in memory of Christopher Gould was established by his family in 1998. After graduating from Deree College, he went on to teach computer science at college level until his untimely death in 1997. The scholarship is meant to provide assistance to a promising student of limited financial resources who is majoring in Computer Information Systems.

The Student Life Scholarships provide 50% tuition reduction and are given for one academic year to matriculated students at Deree College. Renewal of the award is possible. Awards are given at the end of each academic year.
Propeller Club Scholarship:
Annual scholarship, 50% tuition reduction for Business Administration majors, Open to Deree College students only
Intent of the award
This endowment scholarship was established in 1990 by a donation from the Propeller Club to the Scholarship Fund of the College to recognize a student who has excelled in the School of Business Administration.
Extent of the award
The Propeller Club Scholarship is given for one academic year to a matriculated student at the College in the School of Business Administration. Renewal of the award to the same recipient is possible.

23. Boston University Ancient Greek Scholarship Competition
Eligibility: Boston-area high school seniors taking coursework in Ancient Greek who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or eligible non-citizens. Criteria: Admission to and enrollment in an undergraduate, degree-granting program at Boston University. Selection: By examination; must demonstrate a strong academic record in high school. Award: Full tuition ($24,700 for 2000-2001) for 4 years; 3.00 GPA required for renewal; on a 12 completed credits each semester, enrollment in a Latin or Ancient Greek course each semester for 4 semesters. Deadline: Examination registration deadline is November 22.

FDF Memorial Scholarships

The FDF Memorial Scholarships are given to outstanding individuals that are recommended by their parish priest. The FDF Memorial Scholarships are US Savings Bonds in the amount $1000. They are given to those deserving individuals who will participate in the FDF this year. The recipients are chosen from the many letters of recommendation submitted. At the end of November, letters are sent to all parishes informing them of these scholarships. If there is someone they wish to recommend for one of the scholarships then they should submit a separate letter of recommendation for each person. If you think that you are a good candidate for one of these scholarships, remind your parish priest (or dance program advisor) that you would like to be considered and if they would please consider you and submit your name for one of the scholarships.

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must be of Hellenic descent. 2. Applicant must be enrolled as a second or third year student at an accredited law school. 3. Applicant either must be an Illinois resident or must be attending law school in Illinois. 4. All applicants must submit a law school transcript with the completed application. 5. All applicants must demonstrate existing and anticipated financial need. Applicants called in for an interview should have documentation to support their financial need including other financial aid applications and loan documents. All financial information will be kept confidential by the scholarship committee. 6. The applicant understands that if she or he is awarded a scholarship, she or he will be expected to attend the awards ceremony as a guest of the Hellenic Bar Association at its annual dinner dance. Inability to attend the award ceremony may result in revocation of the scholarship.

Each year the Society awards scholarships to qualified undergraduate and graduate full-time students. Applicants are eligible for a scholarship if they are currently attending or have been accepted by a college or university in Texas, have shown excellent scholastic performance in their corresponding field of study, and are of Hellenic heritage. The Society also accepts applications from students of non-Greek descent that have demonstrated clear, strong and sustained excellence in academic studies related to Greek letters or affairs.
